Side #4 Complete CQJP 2023
stringing them together daisy style and tacking them down.
I cut a small circle of felt and tacked it down with that blue stamen stitch and then covered it with beads.
I added a few buttonhole stitch leaves to that vine and Voila!
Bare spot taken care of
Here's the block all done and mounted
When I mounted this I ended up having to remove a few beads as they had wandered to the backside, when I wrapped the edges over my template
I generally start out with a basic size in mind but this time I had to make it a tech smaller than the original
and so over-shot the edges, whups

Ace of Cups finish
Just a few more "in progress" pictures
And a beauty shot
I looks good when I can get the glow of the silk and the thread in the same photo!
here it is mounted and on the shelf

CQJP 2023 Autumn side Lampbox
The bit of ribbon behind the butterflies made of cut lace bits
Sometimes things suggest themselves to you and you have to go with it!
This started out differently and morphed into a vine
with spiderweb roses and sequins? Huh
Where'd those come from?
Still looks bare though.
I couldn't figure out what to do to mask this seam
And the reason it needed to be masked in the first place was that
the fun slubb silk stripe pulled out from under the blue silk
So I had to carefully unpick the blue, make the seam there smaller and pull the stripe as close as I could get to the blue and tack it down without being obvious about it
There is still a tiny little gap but you can't really see it now with the bit of fringe lace over the worst bits. A little bit of fray check doesn't go amiss here either!Thursday, April 13, 2023
CQJP 2023 Parrot Side Lamp box
There I think this panel is done.
I finally was able to wrap my head around it and finish.
I added a few beads and some folded flowers to it and splammoed it all together.
I also put together the inside of the box and attached all 4 sides that are done,
so you all can see why I was, am, calling this a lamp box
As you can see the rounded sides when put together give it a hexagonal shape
Which then gives it the bowed out look of old lampshades

Happy Ostara
I'm going to celebrate with smashed Pullet ovate in Wisconsin style savory salad
Also finish up this little side quest of a project
Tarot cards are a particular favorite of mine not just for the symbology of it
but the imagery and art of the different decks is stimulating to my senses
I plan to do more of these "Side Quests" in future.
I am embroidering these with DMC 3 strand
on a white silk background
I have been using these pens for decades and they have never let me down
The outlining of the hand, cup and cloud is chain stitch
With a majority of the piece done in satin stitch
As you can see demonstrated at the bottom of this picture when you outline in chain stitch and fill it in with satin stitch
It makes a nice clear stitching line to follow
The bird is the only place I use any other Stitches
Here I also used a bullion for the tail
cast over for the body of the wings
and raised buttonhole for the longer feathers
Now for the pond water
I needed very short satin stitches here

CQJP 2023 Parrot side lampbox and an unexpected bit of bullshit
but it is progressing
Life decided to get in the way this week
and I had to make an unexpected trip to Chicago
nothing bad, just the ex deciding to sell the house
and tell the rest of the family march 5th
3 weeks before closing
I.E. the children who grew up there and left, because he's an enormous tool (my emphasis)
so that if we wanted anything from it we had to get there before the 20th of march
Well Fuck
Here's what I've done so far
The next installment will come around some time or another after I get back from this bit of bullshit.
Reminding me, yet again, why I divorced him in the first place, that it was an excellent idea and should have been done sooner.

CQJP 2023 Parrot side Lampbox
This one has made such a change it no longer looks like its attendant drawing
But this is what I enjoy about crazy Quilting
I have used these birds before on a few things as I enjoy the way the pattern works out
So here is the parrot padded out with a bit of cheep felt
I will use that padding to help the parrot stand out from the whole by embroidering over it
so it doesn't sink into all the other stitching and disappear.

Diamonds are forever tumbling (DFT from now on please)
I was trying to make a tumbling block for Sharon Boggons' Stitch-along over on pin tangle
but the single block she uses is 6x8" and is too big for me to make look right
This is where this block started life and
I think we can all agree it's a mess
This is my newly configured first block
and apart from being a bit blobby, for me and my style it's much better
v This is how I have decided to take care of that wonky middle seem
It's a cheat but it works fairly well
Just take a piece of lace or ribbon and cover it up
Problem solved.Yay!
it is going to be part of my contribution to the CQJP
once my lampbox project is done mayish, this project will take over
but I wanted something I could bang away at and follow along with between times
Hammering out any kinks along the way
I'm taking my time, it's going to be a slow burner anyway
hopefully when I reach the point of giving it my whole attention
It will be smooth sailing for the rest of it
I haven't sketched any of this out yet as the project it's self is in the "fuck around and find out" stage

Diamonds forever Tumbling
Otherwise known as "Sharon Boggon's Tumbling block sew along, over on Pintangle
So this is how I started this challenge
With a 6"x 6" diamond block
Which just seemed (no pun intended)
to be too big for me at least,
and made the whole 3 panel a 6"x6" block,
which does work much better for me.
Don't let those wonky lines alarm you too much
they will be "straightened out" in the sewing
Just add a bit of lace and much of the wonkiness disappears! Voila!
now for all the fun stuff
