Laconner quilt museum installment #4

here are the last of the Laconner pictures
this crazy quilt is made of all cigar silks
they are pretty boring one by one but are rather stunning when taken en masse

I didn't take pictures off every panel of this piece

because they are pretty much the same once you get passed the whole thing

apparently her hubbs liked a certain kind of cigar and didn't deviate too much from those

this next quilt I saved for the last because it is my favorite and it has so much to see in it that I wanted to document it  in detail

you will notice it has some lovely seams and motifs in it

some that are repeated throughout and some that stand alone

and it's in very good shape considering it was an actual bed topper

there is very little fading or laddering due to age

which is very unusual when you take into account how old this quilt is

the dates on it range from 1887 to 1933

and it looks to me like much of the seam work was the work of one hand

though the motifs look to be the work of several people

and then there is my favorite room in the house the tower room

the view of which is stunning and darn it all if I didn't take any pictures of it!

couldn't you imagine sewing up here?
3 windows worth of light, views up and down the waterfront and that ceiling!

sigh!

Heritage CQ-austria

Lots of birds on this one!

herons are everywhere along the streams and rivers of austria.
here I have put a mating pair at the top of a tree

swans are a popular sight on the Danube, such elegant birds sailing across the water

you will find art deco everywhere in the artwork and frescoes of  the twenties and wild peacocks on the park lawns

chickens and roosters are portrayed everywhere on furniture and textiles

there is also an abundance of redwork on blouses and jackets

I couldn't resist putting this  little village on the lace this way so it looked like it was perched on a mountain side. I wanted to put a goat in there too but space foiled me!

and this lovely girl in the center wearing a traditional goldwork vest

and the whole thing.  though I still have a little work to do on it, it is mostly done

I am trying to remember if I have posted any of the other blocks I have 1 to go and with this one have finished 8 so there are 9 total.
I still have the seams between blocks to do.
then I plan to surround it with more cq depicting seattle, where I am now, as a binding.

I will post the others if I haven't already but that will be in a day or so.

August BJP done

now I'm only 2 months behind!

the last BJP was about stargazing

so this months BJP is about the sun.

I don't know if you realize just how unusual it is to have more than a whole week with out rain around here.

well we've had a record breaking 50+ days without rain and frankly it's beginning to freak people out around here!

they are not used to sunshine.

so it is in celebration of the suns continued presents that I have constructed my BJP

don't look a gift horse in the mouth, I say!
I have harvested enough tomatoes this season to make spaghetti sauce and for that I am profoundly happy, with this continuous, if misbehaving, orb!
