CQJP 2023 Autumn side Lampbox

I just kept throwing things at this one

It also did not go as sketched                                                                                                                  but sometimes you get on a roll 

The bit of ribbon behind the butterflies made of cut lace bits

Sometimes things suggest themselves to you and you have to go with it!

This started out differently and morphed into a vine

with spiderweb roses and sequins?   Huh

Where'd those come from?

Still looks bare though.

I couldn't figure out what to do to mask this seam 

And the reason it needed to be masked in the first place was that 

the fun slubb silk stripe pulled out from under the blue silk

So I had to carefully unpick the blue, make the seam there smaller and pull the stripe as close as I could get to the blue and tack it down without being obvious about it

There is still a tiny little gap but you can't really see it now with the bit of fringe lace over the worst bits. A little bit of fray check doesn't go amiss here either!

2nd CQ block

So here is the second block I have managed to finish 

from Cathy's box of goodies

I started to embroider the arches and didn't like them

they seemed to compete with the trim below it

I wanted something in this corner to brighten up the block

and give it a bit of sparkle

I also felt this needed a spider and web

I had some of those flower beads laying around from something else 

They fit so well, color wise, 

and were just enough to fit 

so on they went

I needed to fill space with something brown 

These buttonhole leaves seem to fill the space nicely

This lace motif fit the color scheme so on it went

but it needed more to it. 

I had to hunt up the right button 

I tried bigger ones but they didn't fit. 

This little glass peach button was broken in the box found both pieces and a little E6000 fixed that .

The round lentil beads were perfect to fit between the lines.

A spider and a few more beads to tack down the flyaways on that trim and it's done!

I might throw on a bird charm or two but I think it's good.

A collaboration

Here is another ditty for you all to see

The block was one Helen Thorkleson gave me a while ago when we still met as a group in Bellview

She brought us a lovely big bag of goodies

as I remember

in it was a block I think she was planing on using as a picture frame

Then never got around to or lost interest in

So lucky Me got it to play with!

So I dug through my silkies and came up with these two

Since I couldn't decide between them I used both!

so with a little bit of lace                                 

                    and a few beads

                                            I went to town

I finally used some of the Shibbori ribbon

I have lying around (read; dug up from organizing)

I have only partially finished this block,

Enough to display it at least. I still don't know what to do with it though.

It is a lot bigger than I am used to 13"x16"

and an odd shape.

As you can see there is a little bit of everything here

even some wired flowers

I love using variegated thread with small french knots

Silk ribbon roses and flowers

For that romantic look

It ended up a little bigger

And a little blobbier than I intended

But that is also part of it's charm

For me at least.

 I don't know why I hadn't thought of this before

a bit thick I guess.


Isn't she sassy?

Her slippers are bats (of course)

her skirt and hat are both CQed

shes got an under skirt and her body is made from green dot cotton and barber pole stripes


So much fun this was!

I made up the pattern for her skirt and hat

as there really wasn't one in the Tilda pattern book I was using

and now I can't remember which one I used but I think it was the christmas one from last year.


 The one side I used a small lace motif and beaded it on and gave it a little fringe and some extra flowers




The other side has ribbon roses and a ghost bead though in the picture you can't quite see it

I had a hard time not getting blurry pics for this so excuse if they aren't up to snuff

there are skull beads all over the place and fringe and lace and ribbon and did I tell you how much fun I was having here?







I tried to keep it down to two colors besides the black silks and velvet's I used for the skirt









 Do you know how hard that is?

especially when the purples and browns were yelling at me from their boxes!






but I managed it, whew!

there is a lovely green spiderweb and a sparkly spider

a dangling skeleton

the ribbon roses all have a skull in their middles as a surprise guest!

and back to CQ

 I decided to finish the faerie blocks as wall hangings in groups of 4














 I used batting to pad the panels and sewed ribbon between the blocks to frame each one.




You've seen them all before but now they are all cleaned up nice














A simple hankie hem for the backing




so it won't show on the front, much.






 I've finished 3 so far and have 5 panels left







but they are not all matchy-matchy enough to pull together in one piece
                              

   and one isn't done yet





 so I don't know what I'll do with them.



A two piece wall hanging and three singles? 


Fit them to box tops?

A book?                                                     I dOn't knOw!

Hexiepalooza #1 yellow and pink block

Jumping in on the Hexi craze

these first dozen blocks have been in use for a few years actually.

I Run a class out of Gathering fabrics Quilt Shop in Woodinville WA., once a month and I use Jennifer Cloustons book and several others, to teach crazy quilting and embroidery from.


I use these hexies to show color theory, stitch placement building, sre, use of materials, etc.

I try to teach my ladies how to bring out their creative side, the zen of hand sewing and how not to be afraid of color.

They are vEry colorful ;)

2017 CQJP 2 Rue Glycene

The story of this panel starts with a picture taken during a meandering walk,

in which I decided to wander the streets, looking for nothing in particular.

After passing the rather disreputable looking door,

 As the door was deeply set into the wall and ajar I entered this unexpected fairyland,

Located down a little covered corridor which opens onto one of Paris' many pocket streets.


In which there is a little courtyard

containing 3 or 4 homes with balconies

overlooking this glorious little fountain tinkling merrily in the sunlight.

Each entrance with their own potted garden and ancient wisteria vine

covering entrance and balcony, in purple and pink splendor.

February CQJP is done

 this month felt like a gimmie
 not that i didn't enjoy it just that it seemed to simple

but in the end i just couldn't think of anything else to put on it so there it is

easy

or not
I can never tell usually these things tell me they are done ( and yes, I talk to my plants too) but this one didn't

not as cheeky as the peach blossom faerie but still you get the picture

I didn't think I would finish this one so soon!


I put lots of lace and lots of flowers on this block

a bird
there is a lot more SRE than I usually place on a block.

I'm more of a seamtreatment/embroidery girl but i think it turned out ok
and not too much in the way of beading though I did do some

since this is going to be part of a bedspread I didn't want to do too much that would be "catchy"

I tried to stay in the pastels but there needed to be some contrast to the overall purplieness of the block.

there was some dark blue/black in the detail and a few of the other blocks so I don't think I wandered outside the parameters too badly
