I remember the actions of ordinary everyday people, while the towers were still burning and immediately after they fell, that is the America I wish to remember on this 9/11.
The America that drops everything, sometimes running into danger, to help the stranger.
It is the America we saw briefly again during the World cup this summer. Welcoming, generous, a little silly, proud to show you around their little patch of country, welcoming the stranger with open arms and open heart.
That is my America, that is what America means to me.
Whatever it is the entitled rich whyte boys of this government are doing is not it. We the regular everyday people of America need to stop them. Please vote. If voting didn't work, the powers that be wouldn't be trying so hard to take it away from you.
If the people of this country weren't being separated by political hate and legislated scarcity, that welcoming generous and a little silly America, proud to show you their little patch, would come back to being an every day thing, instead of a special occasion thing, welcoming the stranger with open arms and open heart.
